North West Bassett

North West Bassett - The area.

North West Bassett is an area of the city of Southampton in the county of Hampshire in the United Kingdom.

Today the area is a residential suburb of the City of Southampton, the character of which NWBRA was formed to protect.

It is an area that, historically, was part of the Manor of North Stoneham, which was mentioned in the Domesday Book. In the
fourteenth century North Stoneham Park was a fine deer park belonging to the abbot of Hyde. Much of the area was owned for many years by the Fleming family and was known as “The Fleming Estate”. Most of the Fleming Estate land was auctioned before the First World War and in the 1950’s. The area is now a residential suburb of the City of Southampton.
